To be honest, France is no different than the rest of Europe when it comes to beer tradition. In pre industrialization times beer were the dominating beverage in the countryside. When the industrialization started and people started to move into towns the beer drinking declined. The small breweries that still remained in the villages were hitten hard by the to world wars. If they did not end up in the direct war zone all the equipments became transformed into ammunition!
Today the craft beer culture is as strong as in other countries. The beer is well made, experimental and always with the French touch of complexity and tastefulness.
